J and I are going to Australia! We got our working holiday visas and we are OUTTA HERE. I'm going to miss a lot of people here in Vancouver, but it is time for our next adventure. I'm super excited. Australia is so far away that THE STARS ARE DIFFERENT. I have always wanted to see the Southern Cross! Also marsupials are neat! And there will be different foods to try - I'm sure it's easier there to get ahold of exotic fruit from Southeast Asia or whatever.

How to Knit Enchanted Wristguards
I just published my first Instructable! It is for these cute arm warmers I designed and made the other day. You'll see me wearing them tomorrow night at Organix!

Edit: I don't really like how the Instructable embed worked out - I recommend clicking through to the Instructables site itself. The link is in tiny text just below the embedded frame.

* As of two days ago, J and I have been married for one year! <3 <3 <3 We opened the bottle of white wine we kept from the wedding, not knowing if it would still be good. It was, and we enjoyed every drop! We plan to open the red on our 5th anniversary :D Our full-on celebration was last weekend, at Karma (forest psytrance festival). So freakin awesome. Three full hours of Spacetribe, and so much more!

* I'm finished all my classes for Environmental Protection Technology. Now all I have to do is my final co-op work term, then I graduate! Pretty incredible, especially when I think of how long it took me to get my physics degree.

* AAAND... I got a job for my work term! It's with a local environmental company, doing environmental sampling and testing for a lake remediation project. I'm so excited! It's exactly the kind of practical fieldwork I was hoping for. I'm going to learn so much! It will be hard work, and sometimes the weather will be nasty. And I am so up for it.

time for bed
Sometimes I stay up late on the computer because I'm avoiding that dark silence between going to bed and falling asleep. Sometimes in the dark, as I wait for sleep, I worry. Sometimes I'm just lonely.

What happens next?
We filed our insurance claim a few days ago. I wonder how long it will take before we find out what happens next. We are going to lose a lot if they only give us the depreciated value of our laptops. They were worth more than that to us - we weren't planning to sell them!

There is so much uncertainty in my life right now, it's hard to deal with. Not just the theft thing, but other things too. I lost my job yesterday. I don't feel like saying more about that right now though.

I'm trying to roll with the punches... I think I need to talk to my family. It's just hard to have a good talk when they're so far away, especially now that I can't do Skype on my pretty pretty macbook.

God damn I miss my computer. Oh, to slide the cursor to the corner of the screen and engage Exposé. Or to two-finger scroll. Or the sweet, sweet key commands of Quicksilver. How I miss you. And David Lanham's Somatic theme and his lovely little icon sets, so quirky yet so well-designed. Whether it's a macbook or a netbook, I want my own computer SOON.

It all depends on the insurance company.

I have a bad feeling about this.

Just in case anyone reads my journal but not J's, here's a link to his post on our recent misadventure. Short form: burgled. Stolen: laptops, backpack, sense of security.

Oddly enough...
Today I've been able to study better with psytrance ON than with it OFF.

Too easy.
